Azul won the Spiel des Jahres in 2018 and has stayed near the top of every recommendation list since. Players draft coloured tiles from shared factories and lay them into a mural in the Royal Palace of Evora, scoring for patterns and losing points for anything they cannot place.

The rules take five minutes to explain and the decisions get sharp within one round. That is a rare combination. We recommend it more than any other game to people who say they want something better than Monopoly but not complicated.
