E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is an American science-fiction movie made by director Steven Spielberg in 1982. It was a commercial blockbuster when it came out and again when it was re-released in 2002.
Although Spielberg declared E.T. himself was "something that only a mother could love," the film was praised by critics and popular among cinemagoers, and touched the whole world over 40 years.
This film was nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture at the 55th Academy Awards, and took home Oscars in the categories of Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, and Best Sound Editing.
